We have worked with the Cuban Boxing Academy and the Harrow club to launch our innovative DebateBox™ programme. DebateBox™ is aimed at disengaged students who are at risk of falling out of mainstream education. The programme focuses on the shared skills needed for both debating and boxing: strategy, discipline, focus and quick thinking. By developing these transferable skills, the students gain confidence in their academic ability whilst also equipping themselves for employment.
Over ten weeks, we ran the DebateBox™ programme with students from Burlington Danes Academy. In this time, the students’ debating and boxing skills have progressed significantly. Not only has their confidence and focus improved, but also their understanding and engagement with national issues.
Following the success of this pilot project, we hope to expand DebateBox™ to four other schools in the area. Find out how you can support DebateBox™ and our many other programmes here.
